Q and A

Question

I’m pregnant and not on medication, is it ok to start?

I’m 17 weeks pregnant and not on medication. I’m scared to start it. WIll my baby be OK? Am I too late to start?

Answer

Thanks for getting in touch.

Its common that people can be scared and nervous when thinking about ARVs. However, as you’re pregnant its very important that you start medication, and as soon as possible. This is because its the meds that will help prevent your child from being positive. There’s more about this here in our HIV and pregnancy guide:

Though its not possible for anyone at this point to say if your baby will be OK or no, being on medication will help.
For more info about starting medication, please see here:

Its important to know that its not a given that you’ll have side effects, some people get them, others none at all.
