Q and A

Can you change the time that you take your ARVs?

Can I change time of taking Efavirenz from 21:00 to 22:00 or it can cause resistance? It’s only week I started to take medicine, HIV diagnosed in late January 2019.

Thanks for getting in touch.

Yes you can change the time that you take your meds, this won’t be an issue. There’s more about starting meds here: http://i-base.info/guides/starting

    Hi Paul,

It’s good to hear you’ve been on ARVs for almost 2 years. How’s it going? Do you have access to your CD4 and viral load results?

The drugs in Atenef are efavirenz, tenofovir DF + FTC. As you can see from this link efavirenz can be linked to sleep disturbance and mood changes. If taken in the daytime some people have reported it makes them feel dizzy. Or that it makes it difficult to think clearly.

But taking Atenef at bedtime means that any side effects happen when you’re asleep.

Please talk to your doctor about why you want to change and take them in the morning. You can ask if there are other ARVs that will be better for you.
