Q and A

Question

What do I do about my rash and ringworm?

Its my 2 months that I’m on Atroiza and my body has rash more especially my face and it has ringworms how can I maintain it?

Answer

Hi,

Thanks for your question. With any rash, and with ringworms, it is important to discuss this with your doctor. S/he will be able to assess how serious the rash is and whether any treatment is needed. Ringworm is a fungal infection- not actually a worm- and is usually easy to treat.

For general information about rashes with ARVs please see our side effects guide.

    Hi Promise,

Sorry to hear that the fungal infection has come back. Please talk to your doctor about how you might treat this again.

But how’s your HIV treatment going? Please let us know what meds you’re taking. And if you have access to your viral load and CD4 count results, please let us know what they are.

    Hi Lee,

Sleep disturbance is a common side effect when beginning ARVs that contain efavirenz. They do however, usually go within a few weeks.

Please see here for more info about atrozia:

Because you are having trouble sleeping, you could take sleeping pills. However, there is no research that indicates that this will stop the sleep disturbance.

For more on how to cope with the side effects of efavirenz please see here:

Please help, I’ve just started with atroiza last night, I have been warned about the side effects and thought I was prepared however the seriousness of the hallucination and disturbance of sleep is freaking me out and I have panic attacks. Is it safe for me to take the pill with a sleeping pill so I can sleep through it all… please advice.
