Other treatment strategies

The best results will always come by using a new combination that includes three new sensitive drugs.

When this is not possible, there are several other approaches. You may need to use more than one of these approaches in multi-drug resistant therapy.

None of these strategies are likely to be used very much in the UK in 2021. They are included here in case they are useful in rare cases when there are no other options.

• Intensify treatment.
• T-20.
• Using five or more drugs.
• Treatment interruptions.
• Drug recycling using viral fitness.
• Benefit of staying on treatment.
