Answer
Hi,
If you have missed a dose you should take it as soon as you remember. If you have only realised when you’re taking your next dose do not take a double dose. Almost everyone will be late or miss a dose occasionally. However this becomes a concern if it is happening regularly.
If you are regularly missing doses you are at risk of developing resistance. This means that you meds will stop working effectively. This is why adherence is important. Adherence means taking your meds every day and as close to the same time as possible.
If you are you can talk to your clinic about why you are missing doses. If it is because of side effects for example there might be different meds available.
There is more detail about what you should do if you miss a dose in this treatment training guide
And more information about adherence in our online guide to treatment.
Hi Jay – thanks – and great you are on ART and doing so amazingly well at taking the meds. Missing this one time will be okay and won’t be a problem.
I have been taken ART regularly for 2 years, never missed . now viral count is undetectable. Unfortunately I forgot to have yesterday dose and I got remember after 36 hours and i had drugs just after remember. Please let me know there is a risk?i missed only one day only.
thank you,
jay
Hi Billy – missing one dose will be ok – try not to do this very often though :)
I missed one dose, will that affect my viral load?
Hi Tumuhimbise, it is great that you have now restarted treatment. Can I ask why you missed it over this period?
After a week of no treatment there is some risk of viral rebound. What was your viral load before the 28th dec?
As you had missed treatment for longer than a week it is recommended that you have a viral load test in a few weeks. This is to check that your treatment is still working and viral load is being suppressed.
Hi .I missed my dose from 28th dec to 10th jan ,but I called my doctor he told me that I resume my dose as long as it haven’t taken amonth while doging so I started from then,am I too late for it or.thanks
Hi John, please see here: https://i-base.info/qa/factsheets/pep-faq Being late with a single dose is not likely to be a problem. Continue with your course of treatment.
Hi on my 3rd day of pep medication I took 7 hours later ,, is this make my pep not working and forstavir-em and Dolutegravir
Hi Stacy, no it does not mean that they are at risk. While you are on PEP you are unsure of your status. It does mean there is some risk however this is not considered significant and this person does not need to be on PEP themselves.
I slept with someone negative while i was on PEP.Does this mean they are at risk?
