I’m moving to England. How do i access HIV care, do i have to pay and will i have to change treatment?

Answer

Hi,

HIV care in England is free of charge. When you arrive here you would make an appointment at a HIV clinic. It is usually relatively easy to find these using google. If you have trouble with this let us know and we can help.

Once you register with them they will re-test you. Then you can start getting treatment from there. When you arrive in England make sure you have enough medication with you for one or two months. This is because sometimes the administration and registration process can take a bit of time.

The answer to your question about changing treatment depends on what you are taking. There may be newer and more effective drugs available in the UK. Your doctor might recommend that you change. You might also be taking medication that is no widely available in England yet. This may be because it has not been approved yet or because it is too expensive here. In this case you might be asked to changed to something else.
