Q and A

Question

What are D100 tablets and isoniazid used for?

What are pink big tablets marked D100 and Winthrop Isoniazid 300 mg used for?

Answer

Hi

Isoniazid is often used as a protective treatment to reduce the risk of TB.

D100 might be a medicine called doxycycline, which is a drug used to treatment many different things.

Please ask your doctor or pharmacist to talk about this. These people will help you understand your medicine and what it is being used for.

    Hi.

1.What happens if you stop taking Isoniazid for a month and start taking it again the following month?

    2. What’s the difference between Isoniazid 300g and Isoniazid 100g?

N.B I take Isoniazid for T.B prevention, not for curing.

    Hi Prudence,

As this is TB related this is something that you should talk to your doctor about.
Are you also on meds for HIV?

I am taking Winthrop isoniazid since September 2016 but I’m coughing every time. I don’t know why. I think this pills is the reason why I cough. What must I do? should I live the pills or what?

    Hi John,

This is something to talk about with your girlfirend. Medical information is personal. This might be a medication that your girlfriend is using to protect against an infection (called ‘prophylaxis’). It might not be a treatment.

    Hi Rato,

It’s good that your sister is still taking Tribuss.

But it’s important that she keeps on taking isoniazid too. This drug works against TB. The complete course of isoniazid must be taken to make sure it’s effective against TB, otherwise it might not work.

It’s important that your sister goes back to the clinic quickly. She can ask for more TB meds and ask whether she needs different drugs instead of isoniazid.

My little sister started Tribuss on 3 May and CD4 was 246. She went to the clinic on 1 June for the next ARVs, the Dr gave her Tribuss and vitamin B6 and trixazole and S3 Winthrop isoniazid for protecting and TB. She only realised after 2 weeks that Isoniazid expired on the 06/2016. She stopped it at the same, did she have to take it while the exp date is June or wait for next date? is there an chances of getting a TB because she stopped taking Isonaid?

    Hi Hlogi,

If you live in TB prone area this may be the reason why you’ve been given TB meds. Do you live in such an area? What’s your CD4 count?
