Question
My viral load is 20, is this OK?
24 February 2017. Related: All topics, CD4 and viral load.
Been on Atripla for 6 years now ,
went for my regular test ,got my results today and CD4 is on 900 but VL is less than 20 copies am very worried as it is usually undetectable.
what can i do to make sure it gets undetectable again?
Answer
Thanks for getting a touch.
The classification for an undetectable viral load is less than 50 copies. Therefore, you are still undetectable because your viral load is less than this. You’re doing well, and have nothing to worry about.
Hi am HIV positive and am taking my meds everyday ,am healthy and am taking a good care of my self.
I started my ARV’S in 6months ago and went for checkup today my doctor told me that im doing very well as my viral load was very high in last 6months with cd4 of 437.my viral load is now less than 4 and my cd4 went up to 897.he told me not to default my treatment as I’m doing very well.
Hi Esm1207,
Once a persons viral load goes below 50 they are undetectable. Therefore, you’re no longer in the, ‘red zone’. This is great news.
Hi my viral load is 40 copies and CD4 735, is that undetectable? Or am I still in the red zone?
Hi Liswa,

My viral load is 40, what does that mean?
In Ingrid,
A viral of less than 20 means that its undetectable. This great news, as the above post explains.
It also means that the risk of you transmitting HIV is close to zero. For more info please see here:
