Q and A

Question

What’s the difference between Atenef and Atrozia?

I’ve been on meds for 3 months. First I was given Atenef, now Atrozia, am I going to be OK? Will I get side effects?

Answer

Thanks for getting in touch.

Atenef and atrozia are generic versions of Atripla. Please see here:

https://i-base.info/guides/1561

They contain exactly the same medicines: tenovovir DF, emtricitabine and efavirenz. This means you should not get new side effects with any switches.

There are many other generic versions. These include Atenef, Atreslawin, Atroiza, Citenvir, Heftenam, Odimune, Rizene, Teevir, Trenvir, Tribuss, Triolar, Trivenz, Truno, Trustiva, Viraday and Vonavir.

    Hi Lebo,

It’s good to hear your friend has been on HIV treatment for 6 years, and that she’s healthy with an undetectable viral load.

There’s no need to worry because Atenef has the same meds in it as Odimune. They are just made by different companies and so they have different brand names. Here’s a link to other generic names for this pill.

    Hi Bongani,

Atroiza and Atenef are the same drugs. They are made by different companies so the have a different label.

But isoniazid and pyridoxine are used to treat TB. Please see your doctor urgently to make sure there’s not a reaction to these meds.

Do you have access to your viral load and CD4 results? Please let us know.
