Q and A

Question

When will my viral load become undetectable?

I’m new to medication, how long will it take before my viral load is undetectable?

Answer

Thanks for getting in touch.

Once someone starts medication their viral load should become undetectable within 1-3 months of starting treatment. However, in some instances it could take longer. This is why it’s important to have your viral load monitored.

    Hi Imran,

As Lisa has already said, What your doctor is telling you is incorrect, your viral load is less than 50, therefore your HIV is under control.

    Hi Imran,

What your doctor is telling you is incorrect, your viral load is less than 50, therefore you’re HIV is under control. You’re undetectable. With regards to your second question, again your doctor is wrong, your wife doesn’t need to use PrEP. She doesn’t need to use PrEP because you can’t infect her. Please see here: http://i-base.info/u-equals-u/

To put it simply, your wife isn’t at risk.
