Q and A

Question

Does ‘non-reactive’ mean I am HIV negative?

I am 24 years old. I had sex 9 months ago with my boyfriend and I am now going to get married to someone else. I was afraid of getting HIV, so I got myself tested at Ranbaxy laboratory Amritsar after 8 months, and the result was non reactive.

They performed rapid card test, but know i fear that they had used an already used syringe. They used the vaccum system to collect my blood sample. please tell me whether the this type of syringe can be reused and am i infected with HIV or is it just my fear?

Answer

Non-reactive means the result is HIV negative.

However the blood was collected, you are still HIV negative. Ranbaxy labs would not re-use syringes.

Several negative tests make it likely that you do not have HIV. But if you are positive you are better if you find this out.

I can’t comment on the previous tests or results but stress can cause these symptoms too.

I used to have unprotectected sex with my ex girlfriend,I fell seriously I’ll about three years ago so I decided to run an HIV,typhiod and maleria test, the test came back positive for all,so I was given medication for typhiod and maleria,I informed my ex to go for test too she came back positive.after my treatment(maleria and typhiod) I went to another hospital to do a confirmatory test the result came back negative,I’ve also done it twice and the result is still negative(even my ex did her’s again and she said its negative).lately I’ve been losing weight,am always tired and sweat a lot.I went to the hospital the doctor said am having maleria and typhiod and stress.my fear now is if its HIV(am scared to go for another test)

I had unprotected sex last week. On Friday I went for a 2nd test and the results were non-reaction. Are the results accurate or might I be infected and the virus is still undetected?

    Hi John,

I’m sorry but i-Base no longer answers individual questions about risks of HIV transmission or HIV testing.

This service is based on information relating to treatment of people who are HIV positive.

Our guide to HIV Testing and risks of sexual transmission guide has more detailed and easy to read information about these topics. It can be read online at this link:

I had my HIV test after 2 months of my safe sex and I got my result as non reactive. Does it mean that I am HIV positive?

I was in a relationship with a man who’s partners before me were men. He’s only been with 2 guys and he said both of them he wore condoms. We went unprotected until September 23 when I dumped him. I was tested at 4 weeks, 11 weeks, 15 weeks, 22 weeks, 6 months, 6 months and 2 weeks, and almost 8 months (3 days ago) all but the 6 months and 2 weeks were the oralquik testing through saliva. The other one tested in my blood for anti bodies. Everything was negative. May I move on from this or do I have to keep testing? I’m so tired of stressing out. I haven’t had sex since then and although not planning to have sex for a really long time I wish to be able to be in a new relationship without worrying about it.

Also is the oralquik HIV tests ELISA tests? I saw on a package that they are called that but I wasn’t sure.

    Thank you :)
