Q and A

Question

Are Trenvir and Trivenz the same thing?

I was given Trivenz in the 1st month then Trenvir in the 2nd month is it ok for my health?? I take my pills at 20:30 and my supper at 20:10 is it ok to do so?

Answer

Thanks for getting in touch.

The ARVs that you’ve been given are both generic versions of an ARV called Atripla, please see here: https://i-base.info/guides/1561 What this means is that they contain the same compounds. It’s common to be given different generic versions of Atripla, especially in Southern African countries.

With regards to when you should take your meds, the above link discusses this.

Hi Tshepiso, have you had a discussion with your boyfriend about this? As your boyfriend is taking Trenvir it is likely that there is no risk to you. This is explained by U=U: https://i-base.info/u-equals-u/ This means that when on treatment and viral load is below 200, there is no risk of transmission. Even without using a condom.

Disclosing someone’s status can be scary and can often be complicated because of the stigma around HIV. Does your boyfriend know how you feel about HIV? As he is on treatment, he is taking care of his health (and yours). Disclosing can take time and people’s personal history can lead to people not wanting to share their status early on in a relationship. Have you read our disclosure Q&A? This is not an uncommon situation and other people’s stories may help in what you decide: https://i-base.info/qa/category/disclosure

    Goodday,

I just found out that my boyfriend takes Trenvir.

At the initial stages of the relationship I asked that we go together to get tested. He was evasive in his answer.

The label stated script 5 of 6. Which begs me to think he has been taking this for a while.

What should my next move be?
I had my negative test before I met him. Should I go test again?

Hi Ronald, Trenvir and Atroiza are the same drug. They both contain the same combination of drugs. They have different names because they are made by different companies but they work the same.

Hi, Trenvir is not used as PEP. This is because it contains efavirenz which commonly causes mood related side effects.

Do you have reason to think this was a high risk exposure? Are you able to speak to a doctor? PEP can be started and is effective within 72 hours.

Hi, thank you for sharing this. I understand that it can be upsetting to not be told and that your partner may not want to speak about it. However, telling and talking to you about it is going to be his decision and only when he feels ready. The best you can do in the meantime is support him and learn about HIV and how it might be affecting him. This means that when he is ready to talk, you can have a better understanding of what is going on.

I know alot more than he thank i know. He think i will judge him n expose him, but i am not that person ,he thank i will tell people about it ,why should i do that to a person i love. I think God wanted me to find out because he is been depressed lately in such away that i told his brother to keep and eye on him. I wish i can help home but he is not letting me in and i have to hang around and wait for him to be ready to talk.
