Q and A

Question

I’ve been given Telatri instead of Atrozia, is this OK?

I have been on ART for 20 months now and my viral load is undetectable, 20copies. l’ve been using Atrozia. Today they gave me (telatri) should I be worried?

Answer

Thanks for getting in touch.

The main difference between Telatri and Atrozia is that Telatri contains an ARV called dolutegravir. Atroiza is based on an ARV called efavirenz.

Dolutegravir should have less side effects and it should be easier to take.

In many countries including southern Africa it iss common to be switch to the newer dolutegravir-based ART.

Please talk about this with your doctor if this is causing you any problems.

Your doctor should also have explained any change in your meds before you were switched.

Hi Zimkhitha, please ask your doctor about this as you didn’t say what your CD4 count is and when you started HIV meds.

Hi Vicky, yes this is safe. It is a common switch that is recommended. Are you still experiencing diarrhoea and/or any other symptoms?

As your body adjusts these symptoms should go away. If you are still concerned/they are not improving, please go back to speak with your doctor.

Was there a specific reason that you had switched treatment?

Hi Yandoh, no you are not at danger. HIV meds can be taken at anytime of the day as long as it is the same time each day.

Telatri is usually recommended to be taken in the morning as it can cause problems sleeping. If Telatri is not affecting your sleep you continue treatment at 10 pm without a problem.

Hy guys, I changed the time of drinking telatri, I used to drink at five (5)in the afternoon and now I drink at ten (10) in the afternoon so I am not in danger?

Hi Bonola, please check with your doctor about whether you are using Telatri as treatment because you are HIV positive – or using it as PEP fpr prevention.

Hi I have been given telatri and used it for a week now … though I tested negative . I think I might have TB but they don’t see it on my tests is it ok taking Telatri if it happened that I have TB since I strongly believe I have but can’t be seen ?
