Question

I used ARVs (ART) in late pregnancy and my baby is negative

I found out that I’m HIV positive when i was 8 months pregnant, started to take my ARVs. Gave birth and my daughter she’s negative. The last test of 18 months will be next year.

Answer

Hi there

Congratulations on your new baby – and thanks for sharing your story.

This is great news.

Modern HIV meds (called ART) are really effecting at getting viral load undetectable.

If your meds include dolutegravir (usually in TLD) this can happen within a month.

Great that you started ART as soon as you found out you were HIV positive. This is recommended for everyone now. This includes starting as soon as you know you are pregnant too.
