Question
Is my HIV test conclusive after 12 weeks?
13 May 2010. Related: All topics, HIV testing, HIV transmission.
I have just had an HIV test which came back negative. This was at the 12-week mark. Everywhere says that results are conclusive at 3 months (which is more like 13 weeks). Can I take the 12-week negative result as conclusive or do I have to have another test?
Thanks
Answer
Thank you for your question.
Most modern tests are accurate 3-4 weeks after exposure. If you have taken a test at 12 weeks and it was negative and you have not exposed yourself to HIV during those 12 weeks then you do not need to take another test.
