Question
I have Crohns disease, will this affect my HIV test result?

Hello,
I had a brief encounter with a lady where the condom broke at the end. I took an antibody test at 4 weeks along with an Oraquick saliva test. Both came back negative. I have Crohns disease so not sure if this can affect development of antibodies. This is the only exposure I have had since I last tested negative. Is the Oraquick saliva test a good test?
Answer
Thank you for your question.
Having Crohns disease will not affect the development of your antibodies and so will not affect your HIV test. The Oraquick test is very accurate 4-6 weeks after a possible exposure. If you have tested negative after 4 weeks then you do not have HIV.
