Q and A

Question

I missed a dose of ARVs and I am breastfeeding.

Will it affect my baby if I missed my ARVs medication time. I took them 6 hours late. In this time I breastfed.

Answer

Hi, how are you?

Congratulations on having a baby. There is no risk to your baby from this event. When you’re established on ARVs there is a level of medication within your body. Occasionally having a late dose will not cause this level to drop significantly. There would also be no time for HIV rebound.Breastfeeding during this time would not have caused a risk of transmission to your baby.

If you have another question please ask,

Josh.

Hi Abel, there is no supported evidence to suggest that taking black seed will boost your immune system. No supplement/herbal medicine has been demonstrated to have this effect. Taking ARVs is how to increase and maintain your CD4 count. This is how your immune system will remain stable. At no point should you stop. Stopping ARVs will allow viral load rebound and your CD4 count will fall even if you continue with black seed.
