Can I bring medication into the USA?

Hi, I’m going to be traveling to the USA on a J1 visa which is a 12 month program. I was wondering if it possible to travel with 12 months worth of medication or I would have to have it sent via mail to me?

The recommendation is to bring ‘no more and no less’ than you require. Unfortunately this is not a specific number. Any medication that you do bring should be in hand luggage, in its original packaging and with a prescription note detailed for personal use.
12 months is an extended duration. Without talking to the US embassy it is not possible to say if a full 12 month course of medication is considered necessary when it can be mailed.
