Late with the after sex on-demand PrEP dose.

Hello for all. I started 2-1-1 prep, took 2 pills 3 hours before sex. Then I took second pill after 24 hours after sex, not 24 hours after the first 2 pills – I have delayed the second pill by 3 hours. I’m still continuing taking PrEP every day because I have sex but I am just worrying is it ok to delay the second dose by 3 hours? Thank you for reply.

Being 3 hours late on the second dose is not likely to cause a problem. The initial double dose will have increased the drug levels within your body more than a single dose anyway. These drugs tend to remain at the required drug level within the body for more than 24 hours.
While it is best to take the medication as routinely as you can, being late by 3 hours is unlikely to cause you any problem. As you have now continued with daily dosing, PrEP will have remained at effective level within your body.
There is no reason to be concerned after this event,

Hi I would like to ask about the effectivity of my 2+1+1 dosage because I am late on my third dose. Here’s the time I took the doses:
2 pills — 1:53 AM March 6
1 pill — 2:30 AM March 7
1 pill — 8:04 AM March 8
I missed my second dose by about 5 hours and 30 minutes. I had protected sex with a woman on March 7 11PM-1AM. I fear that there may be vaginal fluids that seeped in the condom through the base. Please help me on what to do. Should I take PEP? Thank you.
Hi Bob, as the first dose is a double dose there will still be some protection from PrEP. As you were late with the second dose it cannot be said that it it will be as effective as taking it on time, but even late, PrEP will make this a low risk exposure. For this reason a course of PEP is not required.
I took on-demand prep: 2 pills at 11pm and engaged in sex 6 hours later. Then i was late with the second dose by 9 hours. The third dose was on time. Do i need to take Pep or i am still protected.

I was about 12 or so hours late with my 2nd dose. I took 2 pills at 6pm saturday had sex at 9pm then forgot all sunday just took another pill now at 8.30am monday. Im hoping that that isnt too much for me to be worried about. I dont actually have any PeP
Hi James, does this mean you were 10 hours late with your second dose? e.g., 12 pm 16/02 and 10:30 pm 17/02. If this is the case you should still continue taking PrEP at 12 pm. Though as 10 hours was a long gap it would be advised to speak with your doctor. If this was a high risk encounter it may be advised to have a course of PEP.
Hi. When should I take my 3rd dose of PrEP if I’m late 12 hours with second dosage of on demand prep (truvada).
2 tablets at 12:30 pm – 2 hours prior to sex
1 tablet at 10:30 pm the next day
Hi Dani, as the first dose is a double dose there will still be some protection offered. As it is not taken within the 24 hours, it may not be at the same level though this is not to say you are not protected. Some PrEP will always be better than none. As you were only 4 hours delayed it is not likely that the PrEP you has already taken will be insufficient. Drugs used for PrEP remain in the body longer than 24 hours and this can cover for being late with doses.
You should continue taking PrEP at the regular time. So your next dose will be at 1am.
Im on the 2-1-1 (on-demand prep) and here’s what happened.
I took 2 pills at 1am and I had sex with my partner around 8pm, then the second take Im late by 4hrs a (like 5am i took the 1 pill). Am I still protected?
And what if I will have sex again with my partner within the 24hrs after i took the second take then follow to take the last pill in 2-1-1 should I take it 1am the original routine or follow 5am now?
