My boyfriend told me he is HIV negative but I have now tested positive.

Hi, l would like to ask, l tested HIV positive. Is it possible that it came from my boyfriend? We have been together for 3 years and he actually says he’s negative. l had to find out that l was HIV positive when l went to the clinic for severe headaches. My worry now is that he wants us to get tested yet l know I am positive and l don’t know about him.

Have you been able to talk to anyone about recently testing positive? Are you in a position where you feel comfortable telling your boyfriend about your status?
Do you know if your boyfriend has had a test before? It is possible that your boyfriend did pass on HIV, however if he has not tested before, this cannot be said with certainty.
Do you know if you could have been exposed to HIV elsewhere? Other sexual partners or through needle-stick injuries.
Going for you both to be tested does mean you are both aware of your status. This would allow you to both be on treatment if needed or have appropriate precautions to prevent transmission.
