Question
How long does Triumeq remain in the body?
16 May 2022. Related: Adherence, All topics, CD4 and viral load.
How long does Triumeq stay in your body after missed doses? How quickly can I expect a viral rebound? Just asking out of curiosity.
Answer
Hi, how are you doing?
Trimueq has a half life between 13 and 19 hours. This means that half of the active medication will be removed from the body within this time.
For this reason there is enough active medication in your body to prevent viral rebound if you miss a single dose.
After this, the medication will half every 13 to 19 hours and fall below the level required to prevent HIV replicating. Due to the range of time of the half life of Triumeq it is difficult to say when the viral rebound will occur.
In most cases rebound would be guaranteed within 2 weeks, however it would be expected to occur sooner than this and missing more than a single dose can significantly increase the risk of exposure. Missing anymore than 2 doses would require a viral load test to determine that your treatment is still effective.

Hi,
Intermittent treatment with Triumeq (4 days on/3 days off) has been prescribed in France for more than two years. Why is this never mentioned in the UK ?
