Question

Switching from Symtuza to Delstrigo.

I am really worried about changing my medication from Symtuza to Delstrigo. Symtuza was my first ART but I have gained weight and my VL has not yet reached less than 50 after 15 months my consultant states it is 60.

Why is it suggested I change and are there more expected side effects to be expected from Delstrigo? Should I be worried? This is my first ever change.

Answer

Hi, how are you doing?

This is a previous question that answers a lot of your own: https://i-base.info/qa/19254

A viral load of 60 is excellent. It proves that your viral load is being suppressed and that your medication is working. If a viral load is below 200, U=U can apply and there is no risk of sexual transmission of HIV.

Between the two, Delstrigo is often preferred as it is not a boosted drug. This means you are less likely to experience side effects.

As your viral load is suppressed there is no risk to switching. This is because your medication is already working and switching will keep viral load suppressed – but with different drugs.

Josh.
