Q and A

Question

How long can I be delayed with a dose?

I would like to know what are the time ranges that are permissible when taking ARVs, for example, if I take my tablets in the morning usually around 7am, would it be alright to delay taking them for one hour and take them around 8am?

Answer

Taking antiretrovirals as close to the prescribed time as possible is important. This is to keep good drug levels in your body and keep the pressure on HIV replication 24 hours a day, and especially at the end of the dose period. The more HIV replicates, the higher the chance of the virus mutating. Mutations lead to resistance.
