Q and A

Question

Can you enter Israel with ARVs?

Hi. My question is that can I carry my 2 months of ARV medication in Israel?

Answer

Hi, how are you?

Israel has no travel restrictions for those who are HIV positive. Though if you declare your status they do reserve the right for entry.

To travel with 2 months of medication, taking your doctors note can prove that your medication is for personal use.

Have you contacted your local Israeli embassy for any further information?

Josh.

Hi Joy, some countries will ask you to declare certain health conditions prior to entry. Often HIV is a required condition to declare.

Once declared, the law of the country allows deportation to prevent people living with HIV from entering the country.

Some people will risk not declaring their status, however this is breaking the countries laws and can result in more significant penalties than deportation if found out to be HIV positive.

What does it mean when you say, “if you declare your status they have the right to reserve entry”?

Hi Joyce, yes you can work in Israel. Working visas will require an HIV test. For more information please see here: https://www.hivtravel.org/Default.aspx?PageId=143&CountryId=92

Hi Christiannah, thank you for thinking of this person. I am sorry but this was a question that was posted in April and we don’t have further details about what happened.
