Q and A

Question

What does lower than detectable mean?

Hi, I was told that my viral load is lower than detectable, does this mean I am undetected?

Answer

Hi, how are you?

Yes. This does mean that you are undetected.

This means that your medication is working well and that your viral load is being suppressed. It has been suppressed so low that a machine cannot find it.

Being undetected means that you cannot transmit HIV via sex. Even without a condom. This is explained by U=U.

It does not mean that you will test HIV negative. This is a different type of test that looks for something else.

Josh.
