Q and A

Question

I took the morning dose of Paxlovid in the evening.

I accidentally took the morning dose of Paxlovid in the evening. Is that a problem?

Answer

Hi, how are you doing?

Did you not take the morning dose? and instead you only had Paxlovid in the evening?

As with most medication, this is likely to be fine. Continue taking your medication when you were originally meant to.

If you notice any side effects/unexpected symptoms please speak to a pharmacist/doctor.

Hi Trisha, ideally these medications should be taken 12 hours apart. As taking medication at 2am and 2pm is not really suitable, you could take your next dose at 12am, followed by a dose at 11am. For the next few days you can use 11am and 11pm for your timings.

I started the meds at 2 should I take a second dose tonight or just wait for the morning

Hi Margaret, did you start Paxlovid this morning? It is good that you only have a runny nose. Paxlovid is used to treat the infection before it develops and causes more severe effects.

My husband gave me the doctor prescribed medication at 4pm yesterday. It said there was a pink pack and a white pack. My pack was blue and white and for some reason he gave me 4 pills, two nirmatrelvir and two ritonavir. Apart from a runny nose and sleeplessness I seem ok. So today I’ve taken the correct dosage.

Hi Ellen, you can start Paxlovid tonight. This will just mean your last dose is on the 6th day in the morning. This will not change the effectiveness of Paxlovid.

I just got the Paxlovid. Can I start it tonight or should I wait to start it tomorrow?

Hi Joseph, this is not a problem. The morning and evening doses are the same. Just make sure you finish your full prescription. This means you will finish your course of Paxlovid in the morning on the last day instead of the evening prior.

I just got paxlovid today so this was my first dose. I accidentally took the morning does instead of the evening dose even though it was 9:30pm.

Hi Alma, does this mean you did not take your morning dose? If this is the case it would be fine to take this dose at the end of your prescribed course.

Accidently took my first morning dose of paxlovid at night. Can I add it on at the end of my prescription?
