Q and A

Question

I had protected sex with a woman on her period, do I have HIV?

Three weeks ago I had protected vaginal sex with a woman about 30 years old. The woman was on her period. I used lidocaine spray to elongate our sex time. I wore a condom and for some minutes we had sex but the blood was all over my shaft and my stomach but my skin was healthy. My shaft was not erect because of the spray, so I pulled off the condom and washed my penis.

For some minutes she played with my penis to erect it again, then I wore another condom and started to have vaginal sex again. Again after orgasm I saw blood on the condom so I pulled off the second condom and washed my penis.

After 3 weeks I had symptoms like flu and also sores on my lips, tongue and throat. 3 days after seeing flu-like symptoms and sores I tested for HIV antibodies and it was negative.

Is it possible that between the first condom and the second condom I got infected from the blood which could be remained on the skin?

Is it possible that the sores are from HIV infection? How likely is it I am infected?
Please help me I dying of fear!

Answer

Thank you for your question.

If you tested negative for HIV 3 weeks after, and the test is for both antigen and antibody (called 4th generation) then you do not have HIV. If this was an older antibody only test then retest to confirm the results. The clinic can tell you which test you used.
