Q and A

Question

Why do I still not have HIV?

I want to ask this question, I was with this woman more than 4 months ago and that lady is HIV positive. I am still negative, what’s happening? because I sleep with this woman more than 4 months without protection.

Answer

Hi, how are you doing?

Do you know if your partner was/is on medication? If they are taking treatment for HIV and they have an undetectable viral load, there is no risk of transmission. This is because of U=U.

This is why you would remain HIV negative – there is no risk.

If your partner is not on medication, or there viral load is not well suppressed, there are also a number of other factors that change transmission risk. These can be found here.

Having sex with someone who is HIV positive, does not mean you will definitely become HIV positive.

Josh.
