Q and A

Question

Starting treatment 6 months into my pregnancy….

I’m 6 months pregnant, will ARV help me not to transmit to my baby if I’m starting them now?

Answer

Hi, how are you?

Starting treatment now will help reduce the risk of transmission.

Many HIV positive women find out their status late in their pregnancy. Starting as soon as you can gives baby the best chance of being HIV negative.

Baby will also be given their own treatment for a few weeks after birth to further reduce this risk. More information about this can be found here.

Many HIV positive women give birth to healthy, HIV negative babies all over the world. Starting treatment carries no risk to baby and is the best way to keep both you and baby healthy.

Josh.
