Question
I tested positive while pregnant…
27 July 2022. Related: All topics, CD4 and viral load, Newly diagnosed.
I am pregnant and I tested negative at 14 weeks pregnant. I later tested positive at 35 weeks. I don’t agree to that this what should I do?
Answer
Hi, how are you doing?
Congratulations on your pregnancy. I am sorry to hear that you have only just found out about this test result – have you been able to speak to anyone?
Do you know what type of test was used? Some tests are not accurate until later on. This could explain why your first test was negative. Can you think if you have had an exposure to HIV recently?
After testing positive, were you tested for viral load and CD4 count? If you were unsure about your status, these would confirm if you are HIV positive or not.
If you remain unsure, are you able to have a second test to confirm your status? and have you started treatment?
