I found out that i’m HIV positive when I was 7 months pregnant. I started taking medication right away and gave birth to my child. He is now 6 weeks old and is taking Neverapine. He is showing oral thrush in the mouth and no other symptoms…is my child at risk?
Answer
Hi, how are you?
Congratulations on having a child.
What symptoms of oral thrush does your child have?
As both you and baby are on treatment it remains unlikely that this is HIV. Is baby being breastfed or formula fed?
Oral thrush in newborns is not uncommon and often goes away by itself. Is baby still feeding? If this continues to develop or baby is not eating speak with your doctor or pharmacist for further advice.
