What is the difference between Reydin and Odimune? and what are the dangers of switching medication?

Answer

Hi, how are you doing?

Odimune is an older drug used to treat HIV. It is a generic version of Atripla. Atripla contains efavirenz which is a drug that commonly causes side effects. These side effects are generally not tolerated well by people as they can cause vivid dreams and mood disturbances. There is also restrictions around food and what you can eat at the time of taking medication.

Reydin is a newer combination, it is a generic version of TLD. It uses dolutegravir instead of efavirenz. This is a different class of drug to treat HIV and is generally much better tolerated by people. It can cause problems sleeping, however people avoid this side effect by taking it in the morning. There are also no restrictions about what and when you eat while taking treatment.

There are no dangers of switching as long as you remain adherent with your medication i.e. taking it daily at the same time. This is becoming a common switch given the availability and better tolerability of Reydin. They are both as effective at treating HIV. The difference being that Reydin has more advantages.

Josh.
