Q and A

Question

If my medication stops working can I switch to another treatment?

Let’s say Biktarvy stops working for me, can I switch to other HIV medications?

Answer

Hi, how are you doing?

Yes this would be an option for you. Do you think that Biktarvy is no longer working for you? Is your viral load going back up or are you having side effects?

Switching depends on the country you are in and what options are available. It will require changing the type of drug. HIV medications work by preventing the HIV life cycle at different stages. Different drugs interrupt this life cycle at different points. This is why some work when others don’t.

Josh.
