Question

I vomited 10 afters after taking PEP…

I was exposed to HIV then I took pep within 24 hours but the following day after taking a dose of PEP I vomited which was 10 hours after taking the dose. Should i have taken another one?

Answer

Hi, how are you?

No. You did not need to take another dose.

After 2 hours PEP will have been absorbed by your body. After 10 hours there is no risk of you vomiting any PEP.

Hi Ona, PEP treatment can be stopped after your partner tests negative. The risk will be considered low as it is possible this person is in the ‘window’ period of HIV but would be unlikely. Before stopping any treatment you should discuss with your doctor.

Side effects from PEP should stop after a few days of starting PEP. If they persist please speak with your doctor as other treatments may be more suitable. After stopping the treatment side effects will go away within a day or two. PEP has a short half life, meaning it is removed from the body very quickly and this is why the side effects will stop soon after stopping.

Yes you can take PEP if you have low iron.

Can I stop pep treatment asap he will do his blood test and he will be negative?

How many days symptoms like nausea or diarrhea will remain during pep treatment, will they stop after few days of taking it?

Can I be taking PEP if i have low iron ?

Hi Judah, vomiting 18 hours after your dose of PEP is not going to be a problem. As long as you don’t vomit within 1.5 hours of taking your treatment, this is enough time for your body to absorb PEP.

You do not need to take any extra doses.
