Question

What is the difference between Luvigen and Volutrip?

Hi, what Is the difference between Volutrip pills and Luvigen pills? Each time when I get my meds at the clinic and if it’s Volutrip I gain weight but when it’s Luvigen I lose weight…

Answer

Hi, how are you doing?

Luvigen and Volutrip are the same medication. They are both generic combinations of TLD.

This means they are made by different manufacturers. This explains why they have different names and look different. But this does not change what medications are used in the drug.

Both Luvigen and Volutrip contain tenofovir, lamivudine and dolutegravir. As they contain the same active drugs it would not suggest that switching between the two would cause different side effects.

How much weight do you lose/gain when you change over from one drug to the other? and how long do you remain on one named version before being switched? Have you noticed anything else in your life that could effect your weight e.g., diet changes, exercise changes and/or increased stress?

Josh.

Hello Sr Chauke and thanks for getting in touch.

I am very sorry to read you are feeling nauseous and unwell.

From your text I aim realising that Volutrip is not new for you.

However, if you have been on volutrip previously, it’s unlikely that nausea is related to this medication.

A new symptom would require a new medication or changes in your activities, job, eating habits, etc.

What has your doctor said about this?

I would recommend having a discussion with your doctor to establish the causes behind the nausea.

Your doctor can also prescribe more tests for you or even give you medication to help you through this difficult time.

Hi. I’m an HIV patient and lately I’m feeling nause. I take Volutrip pills now. It’s not the 1st time I take them but for the last last month I’m not ok. I’m not a type of person who gets sick, even typical sicknesses like fever or coughs I’m not prone to that. Sometimes I feel like I’m tired and I have this indescribable feeling. What’s the cause?

Hi Rotondwa, thanks, yes it is better to take Luvigen in the morning. Many people find this helps them sleep better.

When I take Luvigen pills it’s not easy to sleep during the night. So can I change it to morning time?

Hello Annointed and thanks for getting in touch.

You can take your ARVs whatever time is best for you.

We suggest taking it in the morning for people who have sleeping problems.

If this is not the case, please continue taking Reydin whenever it’s best for you.
