Q and A

Question

Does stomach acid effect PEP?

Hi, does acidity cause PEP to be less effective? Because after 10min to 20min of taking PEP I had acid reflux.

Answer

Hi, how are you doing?

No. Stomach acid will not effect PEP. Acid reflux will not cause PEP to work less well.

If you are taking tablets that change the acidity of the stomach, e.g. calcium supplements, these can reduce how effective PEP is.

Hi Dany, reflux does not prevent PEP being absorbed. Stomach acid is normal and is needed to absorb PEP.

Reflux is not a problem with absorption. Instead it is a problem with the acid being kept in the stomach.

Treating reflux usually includes ant-acids. When taking these it is important to take it at a different time to your PEP to prevent any interaction. The ant-acid will reduce the acid in the stomach and prevent PEP being absorbed as well.

Why did reflux do not effect PEP? You’re the only one I’ve red that bring an answer. In my case I have reflux at days 2 and 5 and I’m worried about. :(
