Question

Can I take Korean Ginseng 8 hours after ARVs?

Hi i-base, I am taking a combination of dolutegravir, lamivudine and tenifovir. I want to take Korean Ginseng 8 hours after consuming my ARVs, will there be any interactions??

Answer

Hi, how are you doing?

Yes you can take Korean Ginseng at the time you have mentioned.

It is advised to take supplements either 2 hours before ARVs or 6 hours after.

Taking Korean Ginseng 8 hours after means there is no risk of interaction.

Hi Ntsale, what is the name of the ARVs you are taking? and are these pills a supplement or are they prescribed by a doctor?

As with all supplements it would be safe to take them alongside your ARVs, though recommended to take them at the opposite end of the day to each other. Some supplements contain ingredients that reduce how much of the ARVs are absorbed. By taking the supplement in the morning and ARVs in the evening (or vice versa) there is a big enough gap between tablets that there is no interaction.
