Q and A

Question

Do I need an HIV test after oral sex?

I had oral sex with no ejaculation. Do I need a test?

Answer

Oral sex is relatively safe, but still has some risk for the receptive person, in particular if they have ulcers in the mouth or bleeding gums, and if there is precum or ejaculation.

From what you decribe, the chances of infection are very close to zero, but it is good advice for anyone who is sexually active to have a sexual health check, including HIV, annually, or as appropriate.

Tests in the UK are free of charge and do not take much time.
