Q and A

Question

Do I still have any chance of being HIV positive?

I had sex with a lady. During sex the condom burst. I immediately went to the washroom and washed my penis.

I got my partner tested twice in a gap of 20 days & she was negative. I got myself tested with a PCR RNA test after one & a half months, my viral load was less then twenty & my CD4 cells around 600. I also took an antibody test after approx. two months from probable exposure & it was negative. Is there a chance still I can have HIV.

I took a HIV test after two months of probable exposure with the following results:-

HIV-1 viral load by COBAS TAQMAN :- less than 20 copy/ml
%CD3+/CD5+ (T CELLS) :- 66.1 %
ABSOLUTE CD3 + LYMPHOCYTES COUNT:- 893
%CD3+/CD4+ (T HELPER CELLS) :- 41.7 %
ABSOLUTE CD4 + LYMPHOCYTES COUNT:- 564 /ul
%CD3+/CD8+ (T SUPRESSOR CELLS):-18.5 %
ABSOLUTE CD8 + LYMPHOCYTES COUNT:- 250 /ul
CD4/CD8 RATIO : 2.25
ESR – 20
I also got myself tested after 8 weeks with a tridot which was negative.

Please help in interpreting the results & advise what to conclude from these results. Do I still have any chance of being HIV positive?

Answer

Thank you for your question.

The results you have mentioned above indicate that you do not have HIV. You do not need another test unless you exposure yourself again in the future.

No you don’t unless you expose yourself in the future

Please note that due to mistake in writing the tests are shown twice. I conducted the tests only once. PCR RNA after 6 weeks of probable exposure and TRIDOT after 7 weeks of probable exposure. Each test once thats all. Do I still have a chance of contracting HIV?
