Can I have hope to live with treatment?
Answer
Hi, how are you doing?
Have you been doing well since starting treatment?
You can have hope to live. Your friend is wrong with your life expectancy. Do not give him your money.
People who are on treatment and have suppressed viral loads have the same life expectancy as people who are HIV negative. You can easily live past 60.
As you do have a low CD4 count it would be recommended that you are on another treatment called co-trimoxazole. This is a treatment used to prevent other infections as your immune system is starting to recover.
Many people start with a CD4 count below 10 and with treatment are able to return having a healthy immune system.
Have you been told what your viral load is? When this is below 200/undetectable it means HIV is no longer having an effect on your health. Your body can then start to naturally recover.
CD4 count recovery can take a long time, often a few years. But staying on treatment and looking after your health will allow this to happen. You can be around to look after your family yourself.
Josh.
