Q and A

Question

Should sleep problems stop after 4 weeks?

I have taken rilpivirine + emtricitabine + tenofovir for 4 weeks now. I have experienced sleep issues since day 1.

I wake up in the middle of the night and I am not able to get back To sleep.

As it has been 4 weeks now, should I contact my clinic or can I expect this side effect to go away still?

Answer

Hi there

Most general side effects when starting HIV meds usually get better over the first few weeks.

Sometimes this can take a little longer, but please talk to your doctor about anything that is still causing you problems.

Insomnia if not reported as a common side effect with this combination, but you might jst be sensitive to one of these meds.

Hi Luca, everyone is different. If they still give you problems please ask your doctor about trying a different treatment.

    Thanks for answering my question.
Is there a chance that these side effects will never go away?
The fact that these side effects started from day one is a good sign that they will go away?
