Q and A

Question

Will it be okay to restart ART after two years without treatment?

Greetings, I’m currently 32 i starten my treatment as soon as i found out about my status when i was 25 years old and I did well until I was undetectable, then life went south on my side then i started skipping days without my treatment then days became weeks now its over 2 years.

Now I’m really worried about my health even though there’s nothing wrong with me but I wish I could take my treatment again but I’m scared because its been a long time i might get sick😥🤒

Answer

Hi there

Thanks for your email and for getting in touch.

It is really good that you want to restart treatment again.

Please talk to your doctor and clinic about this as they will be really pleased to know you are okay. Please also talk about the difficulties you had before so they can give you additional support.

Although you might feel well, without realising it, HIV will have been reducing your immune system.

Restarting meds will make your immune system stronger again.
