Q and A

Question

Is my CD4 count and viral load within the normal ranges?

I am currently on treatment my latest result were: viral load 29 and CD4 count 431 is this within accepteble ranges?

Answer

Thank you for your question.

Your results are very good. Once you are on treatment the most important thing to monitor is your viral load which should, wherever possible, remain under 50 copies/mL. Some people get the occassional ‘blip’ where the viral load goes up a little bit and then down again. This is nothing to worry about. Your viral load of 29 is very good.

Which treatments are you on? Have you experienced any side effects? When did you start treatment?

    Hi Ti,

The following are infant feeding guidelines from the World Health Organisation. The explain all that you need to know with regards to feeding options for babies when a mother is positive:

    Hi Kathryne,

Its common to feel like this when you’ve just been diagnosed. What you need to do is slow down. You’re going to be OK. Your CD4 is good and your on meds. What this means is that you’re in control of your HIV. Though it may not seem like you are, you are.

HIV isn’t like it used to be, its now a very manageable health condition. So much so that if you choose to have children then you’ll be able to have children. Your life expectancy is also similar to what it would have been had you not have contracted HIV.

Talking to other who are positive may help. Is there a support group near to where you live?

Am so scared at this point of my life, am all alone I don’t know how to deal with this really, the people I talk to seems to be used to these cases to a pont they never take some seriously. I don’t have a job and since I started my meds, I haven’t been able to leave the house I feel so weak and depressed,am adhering to my meds but I see like am gonna die tomorrow, I don’t understand my life anymore

    Hi Martha,

To have an undetectable viral load your viral load needs to be less than 50 copies. Yours is nearly there.

    Hi Muskan,

I’m not sure what you mean by viral loads 3lac.
If you’ve been on meds for 3 months and your CD4 is now 350, what was it before? When are you due to have your viral load tested?

  10. Muskan

Good knowledge. If cd4 are 350 viral load 3lac in third month of HAART injection treatment. Is treatment successful. Doctor cannot take my viral load before treatment.
