My firend is just diagnosed, how long can they live with AIDS?

My friend has just been diagnosed with HIV and has developed AIDS. How long can he live now ? What are the chances that the treatment will work for him ? We are really worried.

Thank you for your questions. There is every chance that your friend will do very well on treatment and live for a very long time. I was diagnosed with HIV twenty years ago and with AIDS in 1996.

HIV treatment continues to work well for a lot of people living with HIV and it will work for your friend too. The best thing you can do for your friend is to be there for them and support them to adhere to properly to their HIV treatment.
