Q and A

Question

I haven’t seen my doctor for seven years but I’m feeling well…

I had a test for HIV in 2005 and I was positive but doctor told me I should not start the medication because my CD4 counts was high. It is 7 yrs after that I have not been to the hospital to check my CD4 status because I don’t feel sick. What should I do? Do you think I should get checked regularly?

Answer

Going for seven years without having your CD4 count check is very worrying. Over this time your count could easily drop to risky levels even though you don’t have symptoms.

It is important for you to have a regularly check up – in the UK this should be every 3–6 months depending on how high your CD4 count is.

There are a couple of links below regarding CD4 count and CD4 percentage.  Do take your time reading them.  If you don’t understand or have further questions, then get back to me.
