Question

A chat facility?

I wondered if I may make a suggestion about this site? Firstly i-Base is a fantastic resource for people with or without HIV, and this must be the most informative site in the UK. Having said that as somebody living with HIV, I would find it really useful if there was an on-line forum or live chat facility on here. The Body (an equivalent to your site in the US) has this facility and it has been very well received. It allows people to talk to others about their experiences and obtain valuable peer support, something that is somewhat lacking in the UK. I would be really interested on your views about this.
Many thanks for all you do.

Answer

Hi there and thanks for yor nice words.

We completely agree that a chat and forum is something useful and really lacking in the UK at the moment. Hence, we are considering it very seriously and have made the first steps. It takes some time to properly plan and organise it though-moderation, technicalities, IT, etc. We see it ready and active in 3-4 months from now.

So, a bit of patience, please :). In the meantime, I would suggest the treatment forum of the UKCAB (UK Community Advisory Board) if you are not a member of it yet. It is quite active and covers a very diverse set of aspects of living with HIV. The site is: http://www.ukcab.net/

Take care!

6 days after possible exposure I had a bad headache for 5 days, feeling a little tired, diarrhoea once or twice, no fever. Muscles a little achy and tired. Do you think this is acute hiv?

    Hi Anonymous,

You are right, if you’re HIV negative you can’t pass HIV to somebody, no matter what way you have sex.

I have a question about HIV.

I had my girlfriend before. She was my first. I was her first. So let’s assume we were both HIV Negatives. As far as i know, correct me if I’m wrong, both negatives can’t pass HIV to each other even if the both of you participated in high risk sexual activity (anal). Is it possible to contract HIV from there?

Hello everyone. I would like to share my story with you all. I am a 35 years male from the Indian ocean island. I was diagnose in 2017 and tested positive. I was infected around 4 months ago and i was still fit and healthy. I started my treatment in 2018, i was with effavirence and i had lots of bad side effects with that. I had drowsiness all day and was tired. could not concentrate at work and my life was a horror. after 6 months my med was changed to viramune, since then there is no side effect. I am back perfect and healthy and fit also. I have join a gym since 6 months and i am doing good with my workouts, i am pushing hard and more weights added. I am undetectable since my first treatment and i am still undetectable. I have never missed my daily dose. I am as if living a new fresh life since then and i am actually doing lots of physical activities and high adrenaline play. I have always think positive and i play safe. I am still having sex and i am doing great. so i advise you all, don’t give up….always take your med on time and you will be fine. hope this will help you out. have a nice day, cheers and take care. My CD4 was 435 before my first treatment and now around 550.

There are plenty of websites to help poz individuals find love without having to be judged or loose the confidence that everyone deserves poz or not.

    Hi Aaradhya,

I’m sorry to hear about your husband’s recent diagnosis. How is he feeling?

Please have a look at the Q&A on if you have just found out you are HIV positive. Does your husband have access to HIV treatment (ART)? Please see this guide to starting ART.

However, we are not doctors at i-Base so it’s a good idea to talk to your doctor about your symptoms. You can check that they are not side effects to Trustiva. If so, you can ask if there are different PEP meds that are available to you.

Please discuss all with your doctor so that you get the best treatment for your husband and the PEP that works best for you.

recently we found my husband has hiv1 ab/ag positive which was on 1 april. then we both immediately took tested again. Found he was still positive and mine was non reactive on 2 april. we are not sure when he has got this but around mid of jan – feb he was having some signs like rashes, flu and tonsil. but we never know this was due to hiv. i myself got tested on 2-april and result was non-reactive. but since i was already exposed as we were doing sex unprotected the doc has give me PEP medicine Trustiva for 30 days. our last intercourse was on 30th march night 9:30 pm. so when i started the medicines its still within 72 hours but around 69 hours. right now im midway of the medicine and started some muscle pain on my leg and slight pain near my ear. could this possible to have positive? i’m so stressed. im having vomiting and nausea very badly since started the medicine. the nausea has reduced now but vomiting still there. i lost about 3.5 kg since no appetite to eat. what could be reason for this? please advice

    Hi Doctor,

    My name is Sam.
I am 23 yrs. I am extremely worried about HIV to be infected. I have paid to have sex with many people. Mostly was oral. Only one time that I had sex bareback and was orally. How likely do you think I would be infected?

    Thanks
