I am taking PEP, can I have uprotected sex?

I’ve been taking lamzid for 5 days now and I want to find out how this will
affect my pregnant partner when we have unprotected sex?
I am taking lamzid because I slept with someone without a condom and I felt
very unsafe so I went to the doctor within 72 hours and he prescribed lamzid for me.
My pregnant partner is only 7weeks pregnant will this harm our baby?
Answer
There is no data on whether PEP can harm the unborn baby. However, unprotected sex whilst you are taking PEP is not recommended. This is because you don’t know your status and you could infect your partner. That is why it is important to wait until you finish the course and have done the follow-up confirmatory test.

Hi Kwazi, I am sorry to hear this. How are you dealing with this? It is great that you can get a test so soon. When you have a test, you’ll be able to discuss all of your symptoms. Doing this a doctor will be able to manage them.

He was hiv negative and we slept while I was on Pep and then later on after I was off pep. , sadly I can’t ask him to test as I have received news that he’s dead due to a gun shot to the head. There is a clinic near by but I doubt they offer 4tg generation tests. It’s not only the oral candidiasis but now when I swallow I feel pain like I have tonsils. I’m just tired of these symptoms. I’ll be going to the clinic on Monday hopefully the test will be conclusive at 84 days because I can’t take these symptoms or anxiety and stress.
Hi Kwazi, can I check that your ex-boyfriend does not have HIV? You are concerned you infected him on this occasion, then you slept with him again for which he infected you? If so, this is not the case. Re-infection does not occur when the strand of HIV comes from the same source.
Is it possible that I may have been reinfected by my ex boyfriend as I had sex with him during pep the day after I started pep and he demand we have sex later on but used a condom then later on after pep we had without a condom. Could I have infected him during the one time slept during pep and then he infects me after I’ve finished my course of pep?

Hi Kwazi, what you have said is possible however an early infection would not cause a low CD4 count. It is possible that this is an infection with no relation to HIV. I understand that you are anxious and waiting so long for PEP to end is worrying. But without your results (that will be next week), it cannot be said if you have HIV. Do you have access to a health clinic? Some tests can be don earlier than 90 days and if this is causing anxiety, testing earlier may help.
I am currently having oral candidiasis or hairy leukoplakia, my tongue is abit itchy and the taste is different. I tried scrapping it,it does not come off. I did Google it and they say that if my car count low I’ll develop this as an indicator of a week immune system and that it occurs after seroconversion before AIDS. I have been off pep for two and a half months. And no I haven’t test because I am waiting for this month end so that the rapid test can be conclusive and no I haven’t seen a doctor for all the symptoms but I am planning to. I now know I have hiv it’s just that I have to prove I have it via a test. Does
Hi Kwazi, when did you last check your weight? This is not a big difference and does not suggest a reason to worry. It will be good to speak with a doctor and discuss your symptoms with them and have a test.
I was 83kg and now I’m 81.1kg but I’m sure if my scale is right. I haven’t talked to my doctor because I am only going to the clinic on the 31st of January then I’ll get the chance to explain all my symptoms and test for the virus.
Hi Raymond, these are common symptoms for any problem with health. It is also possible that this could be a side effect of taking PEP. Have you seen a doctor about your current symptoms?
