Q and A

Question

Will I use the same meds for my treatment that I used in pregnancy?

When I was pregnant I found out I had HIV. I was taking Kaletra and Combivir to stop the baby catching HIV, which worked for me and the baby and got my viral load undetectable.

I have not started treatment yet, but when I do, will they give me the same ones that I had when I was pregnant?

Answer

This will depend on which drugs are prescribed in your country. Sometimes these will be the same, and sometimes newer medications are used.
Current guidelines in the UK suggest different medications, particularly instead of the Combivir part of your previous treatment.

There is very more information about the combinations and what to start with, as well as other aspects of treatment in the i-Base booklet Introduction to combination therapy. Perhaps you will find the section Which drugs, which combination particularly useful.
