Question
Shall I worry about my drug levels?
10 June 2009. Related: Adherence, All topics, Resistance.
Hi Guys,
I am slightly concerned! I take darunavir/Truvada/ritonivir twice daily dose! Had absolutely no problems at all with these meds!
Unfortunately, I had food poisoning and was vomitting several times a day! I was sick about 1.5hrs after taking my evening dose and didn’t think about it at the time, but I am now worried I may have reduced the drug levels in my blood due to this.
Do you think this will be a problem or am I worrying unnecessarily? I have 100% perfect adherence.
Thanks in advance for your help.
Answer
Hi
Most drugs are absorbed within the first 1-2 hours so you probably didn;t need to re-take them. The best guide is if you can still see the undisolved pills (ie within 30 minutes or so) then retaking them is a good idea.
If you have 100% adherence otherwise, this one occassion is unlikely to have caused any problem. Everyone misses a dose occasionally.
The discussions on what the US regulations for HIV-positive visitors and people who stay longer should be are currently going on. Hopefully they will be changed in a way that they are not discriminatory against HIV-positive people.
The best source of information at the moment will be the nearest to you US embassy or consulate.
I am HIV-positive and I have been taking Triomune regularly for the past 5 years. Next year I am willing to do my drug discovery degree in the US. Will they accept me in their universities?
