Q and A

Question

Can I take prednisone with ARVs?

I’ve got recurring parotitis, was using antibiotics and prednisone with good effect. I started ARVs 2 weeks ago, now symptoms are recurring, is it safe to use prednisone with ARVs?

Answer

Hi,

Thanks for your email.

Some ARVs do have interactions with prednisone that can require a change in the dose you need. Without knowing which ARVs you are taking I can’t say for sure if there will be an interaction. The best thing to do is to check with your doctor or pharmacist before taking prednisone as they will be able to check this and make any changes required.

Hi Goodluch, there are no interactions between TLD and predinsolone. It is safe to take both together.

    Hi Elvis,

As the following explains, there won’t be an interaction if you take truvada with prednisone: https://www.hiv-druginteractions.org/downloads/ajd45jg-4er5-67oy-ur43-009ert.pdf?interaction_ids%5B%5D=96934

    Hi Refiloe,

It’s possible that there could be a reaction if you take Odimune (which is a generic version of Atripla) with Prendnisone as the following explains- https://www.hiv-druginteractions.org/downloads/ajd45jg-4er5-67oy-ur43-009ert.pdf?interaction_ids%5B%5D=73052&interaction_ids%5B%5D=73054&interaction_ids%5B%5D=73067 Please discuss this with your doctor.
